NAKAGOJIRI

End shapes of the Tang

Kurijiri

This style has a rounded end to the tang. This is a very common shape and seen on swords from all periods.

Ha Agari Kurijiri

This style is very similar to the Kurijiri shape. The rounded end of the tang is steeper on the edge side of the sword.

Kiri

This style has a squared off end to the tang. Some swords had this style when made. Most swords that have been shortened also have this shape.

Iriyama Gata

The end of the tang has angles instead of a rounded shape. The edge from the ridge line to the edge side of the tang is very steep.
