WHY SHOULD I JOIN?
When you join the NCSJC as a member, you have the opportunity to connect with experts and fellow collectors of all levels who freely share their accumulated insights and collections.
As a member, you actively participate in our ongoing mission to disseminate knowledge and education as well as the preservation and study of Nihonto.
Additionally, you will expand your background and working knowledge through monthly member articles and opportunities to handle and discuss exquisite Japanese swords and fittings as you develop your appraisal skills and aesthetic sensibilities.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

NTHK Novice Course
New members receive a copy of the Nihon Tōken Hozon Kai (NTHK) Novice Course, which is a great introduction to the Gokaden (Five Traditions of sword making) and includes an extensive glossary of sword terms. Intermediate students may be interested in the principles of sword polishing, making oshigata, the NTHK shinsa (screening) point system, and how to read "papers."

Monthly Newsletter
Members receive a monthly educational newsletter in full color and heavily illustrated. Each newsletter typically includes articles on our monthly theme and solutions to recent in-person and paper kantei exercises. In addition, our newsletters usually also include member-submitted articles on blades, sword fittings, and armor.

Kantei
Opportunity to participate in Kantei (sword appraisal) exercises three times per month: 1) in person at the monthly meetings, 2) online at members Zoom meetings, and 3) solving puzzles in the newsletter.

Cherry Blossom Festivals
Opportunity to display your Nihonto-related items at local cherry blossom festivals in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Annual membership dues are only $60.00 US to renew or to join. Memberships run from March through February. Renewals are due by March 1.
