Gotō Dragon Menuki

GOTŌ 後藤
DRAGON MENUKI
Momoyama 桃山 Period
circa 1573 to 1603

Certification: NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon

Unsigned early mainline Gotō Family menuki, dating from the relatively short Momoyama period (1573 to 1603).

A Momoyama Goto attribution includes the end of the Kō Gotō period, and generally refers to the fourth thru seventh mainline (Shirobei) Gotō masters. This includes Kojō (Mitsuiye, 1530-1620), Tokujō (1550-1631), Eijō (1577-1617), and Kenjō (1586-1663). These early Gotō masters seldom signed their work.

Classic solid gold hairyu type Gotō dragons.
